How did God communicate His Word to man? This is a process the Bible describes as inspiration. Inspiration is not the same as the Bible being an inspiring book, which is true; it creates much interest, joy and enthusiasm. But more than that, the Bible is a book inspired BY God. In this lesson we will explore the facts requarding the divine inspiration of the Bible (2 Tim 3:16).

Did you ever read a command or an instruction in the Bible and wonder if it applied to you? Did you ever wonder if you were doing everything God expects you do? Do you ever feel like you’re leaving something undone? First of all, we can know exactly what God expects from us. His commands are not mysterious or vague. We may have to work at it, but we can understand every command that God has directed specifically TO US (cf. 2 Tim 2:15; 3:15-17; Eph 3:3-4, 8-9).

They are legion who want nothing more than to tear down our confidence in the authority of the Scriptures. But if it can be determined that the Bible is authored by God, then its authority over us will speak for itself - it is, then, the Holy Scriptures. The time has come for Christians to hold fast their confidence in the authority of the Scriptures.

Imagine that someone you love and who loves you sent a letter to your that was intercepted by someone else. And imagine that person reading the letter and deciding to rewrite it in words he believes best describe the thoughts and intentions of the original writer, and then he sends that letter to you. Is that a letter you would want to read? Is that a letter from someone you know and love. Would that letter mean as much to you as the one you hoped to receive from your loved one? This is precisely what has happened with many modern translations of the Bible. Join me in a three lesson review of modern translations of the Bible with an emphasis on a review of the New International Version.

The God revealed to us in the Bible exists (Gen 1-4). He is the Eternal One in Three Persons (Deut 33:27; Isa 57:15; Matt 28:19). He is the Living and True God (1 Thess 1:9), the Grand Designer of Heaven and the material universe (Psa 19:1; 33:6; Heb 11:3). And He wishes to communicate to His intelligent and rational creatures (Heb 11:1-3); that would be expected of the all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God we read about in the Bible.

In showing that Jesus could not be a priest on earth, the writer of Hebrews argues that the silence of the Scriptures restricts rather than gives permission to act. He wrote, “For it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood” (Heb 7:14). Acting upon the silence of the Scriptures, Jesus could have been a priest on earth, but that would have been in direct violation to the law under which He lived.
