Saul’s Substitutes (1 Samuel 15)

If any man had reasons to be a success it was King Saul; he had many apparent advantages, and yet his life was an utter failure (1 Sam 28, 31). How do we explain this? Saul failed because he lived on substitutes; there are five substitutes that ruined his life.

The Grace of Gratitude

Paul endured and suffered through a variety of perils in order to fulfill his commission as an apostle of Jesus Christ. Yet Paul’s command to the Thessalonian church applied equally to himself, “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus.”

Justification: James and Paul

In Romans 4, Paul said Abraham was justified by faith; in James 2, James said Abraham was justified by works - is there a contradiction? Since God is not the Author of confusion (1 Cor 14:33), our aim will be to reconcile James with Paul.

Paul’s Victorious Life

In the epistle of 2 Timothy, Paul was passing along some final instructions to the young evangelist. In the beautiful final paragraph Paul gave a summary of his life as a Christian. In Paul’s words, we find him looking in three directions just before his death.
