To understand how the act of New Testament baptism fits into God’s eternal plan for man’s redemption and salvation, we must see the link between baptism and blood of Christ.

How did the Apostles know when the hearers of the gospel were ready to be baptized? When is a person a true candidate for scriptural baptism into Christ?

“You He Made Alive” — “Raised Us Up Together”

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

In several of Paul’s letter to the churches, he teaches that a soul dead in sin can respond in obedience to God. This lesson will explain man’s spiritual condition apart from Jesus Christ, when that condition changes, and the purpose for the new condition.

Conversion Of The Samaritans

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

In Acts chapter eight we have a record of the first preaching of the gospel to those who were not fully Jews. Samaritans were a mixed race and held in utter contempt by most Jews (cf. Jn 4:9). The conversion of the Samaritans to Jesus Christ will teach us several great lessons.

A Gift Must Be Received

Monday, November 24th, 2008

“For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph 2:8-9). When Paul wrote these words, he was responding to false teachers among the Jews who taught that Christians had to keep the Old Testament Law to be saved (cf. Gal 4:10, 21; 5:2-6). Paul declared that one is not saved by the works of any law, but through faith in Jesus Christ (Gal 2:16).

Baptism: a Work of Faith in the Working of God

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Paul wrote, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Eph 2:8-9). On the surface there seems to be a conflict between this passage and Peter’s statement, “There is also an antitype which now saves us-namely baptism…” (1 Pet 3:21). However, we will discover that there is no contradiction between the scriptures noted above.

“Not By Works of Righteousness”

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Many people have divorced any action of man from his salvation, except perhaps some degree of faith in God. I suppose there are many reasons for this, but two that come to mind are, first, people like to think that God has already worked out who is going to be saved (given a home in heaven) and who is going to be lost (confined to a place in hell). Secondly, many want to believe that since God is love (1 Jn 4:8, 16) then the salvation He offers ought to be available to people of all religions, even the religions that have no connection to Jesus Christ.

Baptism Will Not Wash Away Some Things

Monday, February 25th, 2008

In Acts 22:16 Ananias explained the divine purpose of baptism - it is the method by which we call on the name of the Lord so that He will wash away our sins.

Jesus shed His blood on Calvary’s cross to redeem and to forgive us (1 Pet 1:19; Eph 1:7). True baptism is an act that connects us to the death of Christ where His blood was shed (Rom 6:4). Therefore, baptism has the power to wash away our sins. When we are baptized we must put our faith in the working of God who raised Jesus from the dead. At that point we go from a state of spiritual death to life with God having been forgiven of all our trespasses (Col 2:12-13).

This power of baptism is not in the water, but in the action God takes when we obey Him (remember Naaman the leper - 2 Kings 5).

But there are some things that God has NOT empowered baptism to wash away.
