The Christian’s Hope

Monday, February 15th, 2010

The gospel of Christ calls all Christians together in view of “one hope” (Eph 4:4). Eternal life in Heaven (Col 1:5; Titus 1:2-3), the object of our hope, is not just wishful thinking, or a whimsical dream about the future; it is a matter of certainty!

When Paul wrote these words, he was responding to false teachers among the Jews who taught that Christians had to keep the Old Testament Law to be saved (cf. Gal 4:10, 21; 5:2-6). Paul declared that one is not saved by the works of any law, but through faith in Jesus Christ (Gal 2:16).

On the surface there seems to be a conflict between this passage and Peter’s statement, “There is also an antitype which now saves us-namely baptism…” (1 Pet 3:21). However, we will discover that there is no contradiction between the scriptures noted above.
